At Crimson Nights Farm, we believe a foal's future begins long before it ever enters a training arena. Our goal is to raise healthy, confident, well-mannered young horses by combining thoughtful veterinary care with patient, and consistent handling.

As a veterinarian-owned breeding program, every management decision - from neonatal care and preventative health to nutrition and development - is guided by current veterinary knowledge and a commitment to each foal's long-term soundness and well-being.
Every foal is raised in a herd environment with ample turnout, allowing them to develop naturally while learning appropriate social skills from other horses. We believe in giving our foals the opportunity to grow, play, and mature at their own pace while providing the foundation they need to become successful partners.
Veterinary Care & Preventative Health
From birth, each foal receives attentive veterinary care and routine preventative health management, including:
- IgG testing to confirm successful transfer of maternal antibodies after birth
- Routine neonatal examinations
- Strategic deworming every 6–8 weeks based on age and veterinary recommendations
- Farrier care every 6–8 weeks to promote healthy hoof development and balanced growth
- Age-appropriate vaccinations following current veterinary guidelines
- Individual health records maintained for every foal
Building Confident Young Horses
We believe that temperament is every bit as important as movement and conformation. Our handling emphasizes trust, curiosity, and confidence, creating young horses that are prepared not only for successful sport careers, but also for lasting partnerships with their future owners.
From an early age, our foals are thoughtfully introduced to the everyday experiences they will encounter throughout their lives. Before leaving our farm, they are comfortable with:
- Daily handling and grooming
- Haltering and leading
- Picking up all four feet
- Standing quietly for the farrier and veterinarian
- Loading and unloading from a trailer
- Tying when developmentally appropriate
- Respectful handling and personal boundaries
Our goal is not simply to produce foals that tolerate handling, but young horses that are confident, willing, and genuinely enjoy interacting with people.
A Thoughtful Approach to Weaning
We believe weaning should be a gradual transition rather than an abrupt event. While most foals are weaned around six months of age, each foal is evaluated individually, taking into account physical development, emotional maturity, independence, and overall readiness.
Rather than separating mare and foal in a single day, we use a progressive weaning process designed to minimize stress. Foals are first introduced to short periods of separation while eating grain and spending time with other young horses. As they become more confident and independent, the duration of separation is gradually increased before permanent weaning occurs.
This gradual approach encourages independence while minimizing stress for both mare and foal, resulting in a smoother transition and a confident young horse that is well prepared for its next chapter.
